Ed Hart wins Fall Net Championship
MALVERN, Pa. - Ed Hart of Philadelphia Country Club fired a net 4-under-par 67 to win the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 58th Fall Net Championship Monday at White Manor CC (par 71, 6,316 yards).
Over the tough, new, redesigned White Manor layout featuring numerous, deep fairway bunkers lined with tall fescue, large, tiered, undulating greens, and strategically placed water hazards that took their toll on many of the 200 players, Hart fired a steady 39-37—76, with a 9 handicap, to take the overall prize.
It was a two-man race, as Hart won a match of cards with William M. McCabe, Jr. of McCall G&CC, who blistered the back nine, his first, in 37, but struggled to a 44 coming in for a 81-14—67. No one else broke 70.
There were many winners, however, as first, second and third prizes, and a prize for the low senior, were awarded in four handicap categories.
In the A Class, for handicaps from 3-8, Curt Fromal of The Springhaven Club won a match of cards with Naz Gagliardi of Philadelphia Publinks GA, each of whom carded net 70s. David Macesic of Lu Lu CC was third with a 72. Low senior was Dennis Perna of Spring Ford CC, with a 73.
In the B Class (9-12), Bill Lawson of Chesapeake Bay CC took the honors with an 83-11—72 in a match of cards with Charles Caparo of Plymouth CC, 81-9—72. Robert Freudenheim of Radnor Valley CC was third with a 73 in a match of cards with three other players. One of the three, Francis Sbandi of Edgmont CC was low senior.
In the C Class (13-16), McCabe, of McCall G&CC, won easily with his 67. Norman T. Wilde, Jr., of Philadelphia Cricket Club was second with a 71. J. Stacey Redicam of Sandy Run CC was third with a 73 in a match of cards with three other players. Edmond Crocheron of West Chester G&CC was low senior with a 76.
In the D Class (17-29), it was a match of cards among four players with 70s. Alan Kardon of Ashbourne CC was first, Gus Pedicone of Sandy Run CC was second, Carl Nelson of Doylestown CC was third, and Ray Rittersbach of Ashbourne was low senior.
