Dilcher, McCrossen reach Junior-Junior Championship finalWEST CHESTER, Pa.– They took somewhat different routes to get there, but Zack Dilcher of Inniscrone GC and Edward McCrossen of Whitemarsh Valley CC will battle Wednesday for the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 57th Junior-Junior Boys’ Championship at West Chester G&CC (par 35, 2,707 yards).In the semifinals Tuesday, Dilcher, 11, won the first four holes against Tucker Koch of RiverCrest GC & Preserve and was 4-up with four to play, then had to hold on for dear life to win, 2&1. McCrossen, 13, who ousted medallist Ted Brennan of Philadelphia Country Club in the morning quarterfinals, 1-up, was 2-down with four to play to Garrett Conway of Burlington CC in the semis. But he won No. 6 (337 yards, par 4) when Conway drove out of bounds, drained a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 7 (147 yards, par 3), won No. 8 (460 yards, par 5) with a par, and nailed a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 9 (144 yards, par 3), to win, 2-up. In the Dilcher-Koch semi, Koch began his comeback on the No. 6, when Dilcher pulled his second shot left into trees, chipped short and three-putted for a double bogey. Koch then parred No. 7 after Dilcher missed the green left. Koch then had an eight-foot par put on No. 8 to send the match to the final hole, but missed, halving the hole with a bogey six. He had won his morning match, 4&3, over Erik Schlenker of Penn Oaks GC. Dilcher won his quarterfinal match, 4&3, over Oliver White of Manufacturers G&CC. In the first flight semifinals, Mike Meehan of Moorestown Field Club defeated Eric Brown of West Chester G&CC, 3&2, and Cameron Liebert of Edgmont CC beat Drew Calamaro of Rolling Green GC, 3&2. In the second flight semis, the Van Ostenbridge brothers of Spring Ford CC battled it out, with C.J., 13, defeating younger brother Mitch, 11, 1-up on the 10th hole. In the flight final match, Mitch will face Ian Byerly of Coatesville CC, who defeated Tim Godshalk of Whitford CC, 3&1. The third flight final will match Morgan Dougherty of Huntingdon Valley CC against Drew London of Plymouth CC. Dougherty defeated Steven Altieri of Hopewell Valley CC, 4&2, and London outlasted Zachary Melnick of Plymouth CC, 1-up, 12 holes.
