Appleget, Roberts and Rothaus advance
at U.S. Open Local Qualifier

John Appleget, a teaching pro at Blue Heron Pines GC and Wildwood G&CC, Dave Roberts, an assistant professional at Cedarbrook CC, and Brian Rothaus, an amateur from Philmont CC, advanced to sectional qualifying of the U.S. Open on Tuesday in a playoff. There were three available positions for four competitors.

A 2:40 weather delay and darkness forced a suspension of play on Monday.

All three players made par on the first extra hole, No. 17, while Conrad Von Borsig, a junior at Strath Haven High School, recorded a bogey.

This local qualifier (field of 105 players at Pine Hill, 57 pros, 48 amateurs) was one of approximately 100, 18-hole local qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship that will be played June 17-20 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
