Overbrook GC heads Team Qualifier at Indian Valley CC
TELFORD, Pa. – Overbrook GC led three other teams advancing to the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Team Championship, set for June 30 at French Creek GC, with a 8-over-par 296 in the qualifier on Tuesday at Indian Valley CC (par 72, 6,836 yards).
Overbrook GC will be joined by Philadelphia CC (304), Cavaliers CC (304) and Little Mill CC (305), who also qualified for the four Championship spots from a field of 16 teams.
Huntingdon Valley CC, the defending Team Champion, failed to qualify, posting a team total of 310.
Each club fielded a team of six players, with the lowest four scores counting toward the total.
Ray Thompson led Overbrook GC’s closely balanced scoring with a 1-over-par 73, followed by Chris Lange and Andy Thompson with 74s; Frank McFadden and Oscar Mestre, Jr., each 75, and Art Kania, Jr., 76.
P. Chet Walsh and John Leboeuf led Philadelphia CC with 73s, followed by John Sawin (76) and Jim Finegan, Jr. (82).
Cavaliers CC was led by Scott Chesna with a 74, followed by Thomas Finn (75), Paul Wolfe (77) and Mark Surtees (78).
Low men for Little Mill were Dan Russell and Michael O’Keefe, each with 75, followed by Thomas Hyland, 77, and Emis Krauss, 78.
The finals at French Creek will consist of eight-man teams playing an alternate shot format in the morning, with singles matches in the afternoon.
