Philmont CC’s Ortiz earns low

"I liked playing the course," said the teenager from North Philadelphia. "It was pretty fun."
Matthew Vargo of Brandywine CC was the next closest competitor with a 3-over-par 39 after carding seven pars in nine-holes of play. His finish places him in the second seed behind Ortiz in tomorrow’s match play for the Championship Flight.
Monday’s low eight players qualified for the Championship Flight.
Thirty-two players advanced to match play on Tuesday, a single elimination event that concludes with an 18-hole match play format for all four flights on Wednesday.
