Cavaliers CC heads Team Qualifier at Kennett Square

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa.–Cavaliers CC led three other teams advancing to the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Team Championship, set for June 29 at White Clay Creek GC, with a 12-over-par 292 in the qualifier on Tuesday at Kennett Square Golf & CC (par 70, 6,322 yards).

Cavaliers CC will be joined by Whitford CC (295), Yardley CC (295) and Spring Ford CC (296), who also qualified for the four Championship spots from a field of 17 teams.

Overbrook GC, the defending Team Champion, failed to qualify, posting a team total of 301. Each club fielded a team of six players, with the lowest four scores counting toward the total.

Mark Surtess led the Cavaliers CC squad with a field-low, even-par 70, followed by Warren Smith and Thomas Finn with a pair of 73s. Two players, Mike Chambers and Ronald Jamarowwicz, would card 76s for the Cavaliers team.

Whitford CC was led by David West with a 71, followed by Eric Meyer (74). Chris Yard and Jim Simmons would each come in with a 75.

Stephen Arnold and Christopher Ault led Yardley CC with 73s, followed by Gary Roberts (74) and Glenn Smeraglio (75).

Low men for Spring Ford CC were Bobby Kershner and Eric Olinick, each with 73, followed Keith Olinick, 74, and John Brennan, 76.

The finals at White Clay Creek CC will consist of eight-man teams playing an alternate shot format in the morning, with singles matches in the afternoon.
