Lutz, Moffat survive playoff

Chip Lutz of LedgeRock GC aced the par 3, 11th hole (119 yards) at Applebrook GC in the Amateur Championship Qualifier to capture one of the two remaining positions in the field of 31 (the field of 32 consists of the defending champion and low 31 qualifiers).

Michael Moffat (left) parred the sixth
playoff hole to advance.
Lutz, 52, of Reading, Pa., knocked a pitching wedge just right of the hole and watched it disappear for a one.

It was the third lifetime hole-in-one for Lutz and he said his first in competitive play.

Lutz was one of six players competing for the two remaining available qualifying positions.

All six players finished the two rounds of qualifying at 9-over-par 149.

Mike Moffat of Commonwealth National GC and Chris Kaspar of Lu Lu CC were the last two players standing from the initial grouping. Moffat survived and clinched the final spot on the sixth playoff hole with a par.
