Lookaway GC’s Warren takes Caddie Tournament
MIDDLETOWN, Del. – Gary Warren, Jr., a four-year caddie out of Lookaway GC, registered four birdies en route to a 3-over-par 74 to grab the 18 to 21-year-old division of Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Caddie Tournament at a sizzling St. Annes Club, Back Creek Course (par 71, 6,445 yards).

Lance Hornung, an 18-year veteran caddie out of storied Pine Valley GC, also registered four birdies to card a 4-over-par 75 to take the 29 to 46-year-old division. And Jake Suplicki of Huntingdon Valley CC nabbed the 22 to 28-year-old division with a 5-over-par 76.
Benjamin Grabowski of Lancaster CC and Jack Lukens also of Lookaway GC, took the 17 and under and 47 and older divisions, respectively.
Thirty-one member clubs from the Golf Association of Philadelphia sent their caddies to compete in the event on Monday, with five players coming out on top of their respective age divisions.
Warren, a sophomore-to-be at Penn State University, said he played fairly solid all day.
"I drove and putted well all day," said Warren. "I had a lot of short [putts] for birdie and par."
Warren, who played the course’s par 5s at 2-under, birdied No. 5 (par 5, 505 yards) and 11 (par 5, 495 yards) after almost reaching the green in two on both and stuffing his approach to within a couple feet for birdie.

"The greens here rolled really well, but the biggest thing was to keep it short of the [flag]," said Warren. "If you got it past the [flagstick] you had a real slick putt coming back."
Hornung has won his division five times (‘91, ‘95, ’98, ’05 and ’07) over 13 years of competing in the event.
"I look forward to playing in this every year," said Hornung, who nearly reached the green in two on No. 5 to two-putt for birdie. "This course was fabulous and the greens were terrific."
Just two holes later, Hornung choked up on an 8-iron on the par 3, 8th hole (138 yards) and stuck the ball 15-feet left of the hole. From there Hornung, who started off on the 10th tee, drained the putt for his fourth and final birdie of the day.
"I just lined it up and it went right down the heart of the hole," he said.
Originating in 1928, the first Caddie tournament was held at Whitemarsh Valley CC. This year’s Tournament presented a field of 94 players.
Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 135 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region.
