Association welcomes three new Executive Committee members
Chip Lutz of LedgeRock Golf Club, J. Stacey Redican of Sandy Run Country Club and William Scott Yard of Whitford Country Club were nominated and confirmed as new board members of the Golf Association of Philadelphia's Executive Committee at the organization's Annual Meeting on Oct. 24 at Bent Creek Country Club.
- Mr. Lutz, 52, of Reading, Pa., is president of Sentry Abstract Company, a Pennsylvania licensed full
service title insurance agency and settlement service provider based in Reading, Pa.
Mr. Lutz is a founding member of LedgeRock Golf Club, which opened in 2003, and is its current president. He is a long-time supporter of Golf Association of Philadelphia competitions and is a past Amateur Championship victor (1977) and a two-time Middle-Amateur Championship winner (1998, 2007). Lutz earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida and holds a juris doctor from the Widener University School of Law. He is a past president of the Berks Country Golf Association and is a former chairman of the Berks County Chamber of Commerce (1998-2000). He also holds a membership at Pine Valley Golf Club.
- Mr. Redican, 62, of Hatboro, Pa., is a retired (since 2003) English/social studies teacher of 36 years in
the Cheltenham, Pa., School District. He volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House, assists with Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic and contributes to radio station WXPN (public radio). Redican holds a bachelor of arts degree from King’s College and a master of education degree from Arcadia University. He has been a member at Sandy Run County Club since 1983 and has been a Golf Association of Philadelphia volunteer the past four years.
- Mr. Yard, 62, of Downingtown, Pa., is a recent retiree from Smurfit Corp.
(formerly Container Corp. of America), an industrial packaging company.
He served the company as a sales manager, general manager and divisional general manager for more than 25 years. Mr. Yard has been a member of Whitford CC since 1977 and has served on the club’s Executive Committee and as its Golf Chairman, Greens Chairman and Junior Golf Chairman. He volunteers with the Lionville Youth Association, is the ninth-grade basketball coach at Downingtown East High School and is a PIAA high school basketball official. Mr. Yard earned degrees in marketing as well as a master of business administration from Penn State University.
The three retiring Executive Committee members were Dr. David M. Junkin of Pine Valley GC; Brian P. Kelly of Whitemarsh Valley CC and William B. Weihenmayer of Huntingdon Valley CC.
Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 135 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region. |
