Brothers Andy and Ray Thompson from Overbrook GC overcame a five-shot deficit after two rounds to win in sudden-death
versus Sandy Run CC's Shawn Lavin and Luke Serbun. The latter team had scorched SRCC in the first two rounds, posting a 15-under par (Lavin had eight birdies on Friday).
The two had stretched their lead to seven strokes through three holes on Sunday.
The Thompson duo steadily climbed back into contention and took the lead on No 14.
After reaching the par 5, 15th in two shots, Serbun made the eagle putt to cut the lead to one, and then birdied No. 18 to force the playoff.
Andy and Ray also won the 2005 Hoffner, and Andy has won three additional times, all those with different partners.
The Net Division was won by Lavin and Serbun, an impressive feat, sporting a total of two handicap strokes between them.
