Association announces changes to Junior ProgramAs part of the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s ongoing effort to increase opportunities for all of the area’s junior golfers, the organization is excited to announce several changes for the 2007 Junior tournament season.
Also, the Association has expanded the field size of the Christman Cup, the organization’s Junior stroke play championship, from 30 to 60 players. This will provide an added opportunity for a significant amount of players on the GAP Junior circuit. Additionally, the Association has added the Jock MacKenzie Memorial tournament to the Harry Hammond Award for the 2007 tournament season. Formerly a 54-hole competition, the Harry Hammond Award will now be 72 holes and presented to the player with the lowest aggregate score in the qualifying round of the Junior Boys’ Championship, the two rounds of the Christman Cup and now the Jock MacKenzie Memorial. The Hammond is comparable to the Silver Cross and Senior Silver Cross awards. Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 136 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region. |
