Association conducts 3rd Presidents' CouncilThe Golf Association of Philadelphia conducted its 3rd annual Presidents' Council on March 27 at Waynesborough Country Club.Dan Burton, the Assoiciation President, welcomed more than 140 club presidents, club managers, club dignitaries and GAP Executive Committee members who attended the half-day seminar focused on a trio of hot-button topics affecting clubs and memberships. Featured speakers were Mr. Bill McMahon, Chairman of the McMahon Group, Inc., Mr. Bob Labbance and Mr. Patrick White of Notown Communications, and Mr. Rick Coyne, President of Club Mark Corporation. Mr. McMahon spoke on Societal Trends Affecting the Club Industry highlighting major shifts in club usage and membership. The McMahon Group, Inc., is a firm that has consulted more than 1,000 private clubs throughout the world. Mr. Labbance and Mr. White touched on the topic of The Do's and Don'ts of Storing and Maintenance of Historical Documents. The duo discussed the proper way to organize, store, digitize and maintain clubs’ important documents for historical purposes. Notown Communications has written a number of local club history books and is currently working on one for Whitemarsh Valley Country Club. Mr. Coyne talked about Setting Up Your Membership Replenishment Program. He referred to core issues and perspective membership demographics, amongst other topics affecting clubs today. Club Mark Corporation is recognized as one of the nation’s premiere club marketing/consulting corporations. Mr. Coyne is also co-founder of the Professional Club Marketing Association. Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 136 Member Clubs and 56,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region.
