Lu Lu CC’s Dunphy takes Senior Net Championship
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Victor Dunphy of Lu Lu CC registered 42 points under the Stableford Scoring System to grab the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Senior Net Championship on Tuesday at Plymouth CC (par 72, 6,108 yards). This year’s Senior Net is the first Stableford competition administered by GAP in recent memory.
Dunphy, a Stableford competition veteran, carded two birdie-for-net eagles on hole Nos. 2 (par 4, 366 yards) and 4 (par 4, 281 yards) en-route to a three-point victory over the 78-player field.
"I played pretty well today," said Dunphy, an 18-handicap. "I felt like every putt went in. Everything just worked out perfect today."
Dunphy, who has not played in many GAP events, entered Tuesday’s competition with a particular strategy in mind.
"With my handicap all I try to do is play bogey golf and try to throw a par in here and there and just pick up points," he said. "It’s great because all you have to do is worry about is getting pars and bogeys. I enjoy Stableford competitions."
Added Dunphy, "If you have a blow out hole you don’t have to worry about it since it is not about total score. I had three sevens out there they didn’t count."
The Senior Net Championship moved to the Stableford System for the first time this year.
The Stableford Scoring System is a points-based system where players receive points based on their net score for each hole using the following point scale.
0 - Net double bogey or worse
1 - Net bogey
2 - Net par
3 - Net birdie
4 - Net eagle
5 - Net double eagle
Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 135 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region.
