Since 2004, Machi has been at Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C., where he served as the Director of Communications running the club’s marketing and public relations operations, which entailed newsletter responsibilities as well as weekly e-mail communications. In addition, he ran various meetings, including software seminars and other membership gatherings. "Mario’s experiences in the golf industry combined with his information technology knowledge and his proven communications abilities make him an ideal candidate for this position," said Mark Peterson, Executive Director of the Golf Association of Philadelphia. "He’s a great addition to the GAP family." A 2002 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Machi’s background also includes a stint as the sports editor of the school’s daily newspaper, The Pitt News. After graduation, he also worked as a media relations assistant at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., where he assisted in publicity and event operations for the school’s athletic program. Machi’s responsibilities as the Director of Handicap Services for the Association include managing all aspects of GAP’s handicapping services, maintenance of GHIN records and GHIN systems at every member club and providing technical support, training and supervision to each of those clubs on the GHIN system. Machi, who currently resides in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia, takes the place of Tyler Riggin, who moved on to the Tournament Director position with the Pennsylvania Golf Association. Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 135 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.
