Bahnsen named new Platt DirectorThe Platt Caddie Scholarship welcomes Barbara Bahnsen as its new director.
“We are excited and fortunate to bring a talented individual such as Barb to the Platt Caddie Scholarship,” said Mark Peterson, Executive Director. “Her skill set and talents will be a great benefit to the Scholarship as we continue to deal with meeting the financial demands of our caddies in pursuit of higher education.” Bahnsen, a graduate of the University of Maryland honors program, worked with Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical prior to her time at Schering-Plough. Before that, Bahnsen was a project director for Canyon Communications, Inc., where amongst other duties, she oversaw the company’s publications and artwork. The J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust was created in 1958 by the Golf Association of Philadelphia through the efforts of then President Walter A. Schmidt, Leo Fraser, President of the local section of Professional Golfers’ Association of America, and Albert Keeping, Golf Professional at Gulph Mills Golf Club. It was named in honor of Philadelphia’s premier golfer of the era, J. Wood Platt. Not only was Mr. Platt an accomplished player, but he was also the Scholarship’s co-founder and first contributor. The Scholarship’s mission, which has remained constant since its inception, is to financially aid deserving caddies in their pursuit of higher education. In the last 50 years, more than 3,100 young men and women have received over $12.3 million in aid. In the 2007-08 academic year, 207 caddies are receiving $800,000 in scholarships. |
