Ever wonder what Tiger's handicap is?Have you ever wondered how many strokes Tiger Woods would have to give you on the golf course? The Golf Association of Philadelphia set out to tackle the issue of what Tiger’s Handicap Index would be, following the rules established by the USGA Handicap System manual.
The organization used Tiger’s five previous stroke play events on American soil – the 2007 TOUR Championship, the 2007 Target World Challenge, the 2008 Buick Invitational, the 2008 Arnold Palmer Invitational and the 2008 CA Championship. These numbers do come with an asterisk, however, as the courses the PGA Tour plays are frequently not rated. Therefore, we calculate Tiger’s Handicap Index with the highest rating available for each course. Here is a look at Tiger’s 20-score history from those five tournaments: The lowest 10 handicap differentials are in identified with an asterisk. The total of those 10 differentials is plus 83.74981967. That averages out to plus 8.37. When you multiply that by .96, you come up with a handicap index for Tiger Woods of plus 8.0. That would mean if Tiger visits the home club of each of the Association’s player of the year he would give Michael McDermott of Merion Golf Club, the reigning William Hyndman, III Player of the Year, seven strokes, Raymond Thompson of Overbrook Golf Club, the Senior Player of the Year, six strokes and Robert Robertson of Sunnybrook Golf Club, the Junior Player of the Year, will get seven.
