Golf Association of Philadelphia creates, sets dates for Winter SeriesThe inaugural Golf Association of Philadelphia Winter Series calendar has been set and the first part of the 2008 schedule spans the month of March and each region of the organization’s territory. The Winter Series, also slated to have a fall schedule that encompasses the month of November, was created to offer all players of any skill level an opportunity to compete in tournament golf during the normally quiet, off-season months. Dates are as follows (weather pending):
Each tournament begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $30 per person, per event and entrants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Field size is dependent on host club availability, and will be open to all Golf Association of Philadelphia Members ages 18 years of age and older, Philadelphia Section of PGA Members and Golf Professionals at Member Clubs. "We’re excited to offer all players an opportunity to keep up their competitive spirit and cure the winter golfing blues," said Kirby Martin, the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Director of Competitions. "The Member Clubs have been very receptive, and, with their cooperation, we have composed a schedule that will allow players in each region of the Association’s area an opportunity to compete." Players will be divided into three brackets: Amateur, Senior and Professional. Prizes will be awarded in both gross and net divisions (players are only eligible to win one prize per tournament). Entries will be available only on the Association's Web site, www.gapgolf.org.
