Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler to speak at Caddie Brunch

Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler will serve as the guest speaker at this year’s J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust Annual Brunch, set for Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Manor House at Commonwealth.

CHRIS WHEELER
Wheeler, of Blue Bell, Pa., just completed his 33rd season with the Phillies as a color analyst on both radio and television. He began his career with the organization in 1971 as assistant director of publicity and public relations.

This marks Wheeler’s second appearance as the brunch’s guest speaker.

â€śI'm looking forward to it,” he said. “I recently started a scholarship in the School of Communications at Penn State as a way to give something back to the university. So I'm very interested in organizations like the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust who want to help worthy young adults further their education. Plus, I love golf and am happy to do anything to help grow the game.”

"I am excited that Chris Wheeler is our speaker for the annual J. Wood Platt Holiday Brunch," Jack Endicott, J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Chairman, added. "We will have most of our caddie scholars, trustees and many donors in attendance. Chris's long tenure with the Phillies covers Richie Ashburn, Harry Kalas, the great teams of the late 70s and the 2008 World Series winners. I think all attendees will enjoy his speech."

The Trust’s Annual Brunch is an opportunity for caddie scholars to meet board members of both the Trust and the Golf Association of Philadelphia as well as lifetime contributors to GAP member clubs. The event also honors the caddie of the year, an award given to the caddie with the highest GPA. Weather forced the event to be postponed last year.

Since it was founded in 1958, the Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust has awarded more than 14.3 million in grants to over 3,200 young men and women.
