Annual Meeting at Meadowlands CC closes 2010 season

  BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 114th Annual Meeting, held Wednesday at Meadowlands CC, marked the conclusion of its 2010 season.

  Below is a list of highlights:

  â€˘ Richard P. Meehan, Jr., of Huntingdon Valley CC was reappointed President for a third and final one-year term. Other members reappointed include J. Clark O’Donoghue of Riverton CC (Vice-President), Christopher J. Terebesi of Honeybrook GC (Secretary) and Frank E. Rutan, IV of Philadelphia Cricket Club (Treasurer).

  â€˘ Two new Executive Committee members were approved: Michael Higgins of Aronimink GC and Larry Borowsky of White Manor CC. They replace outgoing members J. Kenneth Croney of Sunnybrook GC and John Holsten of Aronimink GC.

  â€˘ James Finegan, Sr. of Philadelphia CC received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award. A decorated and colorful author, Finegan scribed “A Centennial Tribute to GOLF in Philadelphia,” a volume that chronicles Philadelphia’s rich golf history. The Villanova, Pa. resident also received the USGA’s Herbert Warren Wind Book Award in 2006 for his book about golf courses in Ireland and Scotland.

  â€˘ The Association bestowed Jack Connelly, Huntingdon Valley’s head professional of 37 years, with the 2010 Arnold Palmer Lifetime Service Award. An ambassador of the game, Connelly served as President of the Philadelphia Section of the PGA from 1983-86 and as President of the PGA of America from 2000-02. He was elected to the Philadelphia Section Hall of Fame in 2000 and the PGA Hall of Fame in 2005. Connelly is the seventh individual to receive the Association’s highest honor. At the end of the year, he will step away as Huntingdon Valley’s head pro and move into a club ambassador role.

  The Golf Association of Philadelphia Magazine will highlight each of the aforementioned items in its next issue, which is set to be distributed mid-November.
