*Legends Video Series: O. Gordon Brewer, Jr.
Legends video series: HVCC's Lincoln Roden, IIIThe Golf Association of Philadelphia “Legends” video series spotlights Huntingdon Valley CC’s Lincoln Roden III this week. In 1949, at the age of 18, Roden became the youngest player to win the Association’s Amateur Championship. (Billy Stewart of Llanerch CC matched that feat in 2002). Roden retained his title a year later by defeating Bill Robinson of Whitemarsh Valley CC in 22 holes at Robinson’s home club. In 1960, he reached the Amateur Finals, but fell to John Guenther, Jr. of Berkshire CC, 2&1, at Huntingdon Valley CC. Roden also played in two USGA championships during that time. Aside from his successful playing career, Roden made an administrative mark at Huntingdon Valley. As a former greens chairman, he was instrumental in restoring the course’s “C” nines. The “Legends” video series features local players recalling their experiences and accomplishments both on and off the golf course. O. Gordon Brewer, Jr. of Pine Valley GC was the first to be profiled in this series. Click to view Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV and Part V. The interview is also available on the Association's You Tube channel.
