GAP, WGAP announce new parent/child league

Golf is a sport of family and tradition.

It is a sport passed on from generation to generation, giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together amidst the relaxing atmosphere of a golf course.

This summer, a new joint effort by the Golf Association of Philadelphia and the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia hopes to give parents and youngsters more opportunities to stay connected.

The two organizations announced the creation of a new parent/child league to debut this summer.

Parents must be a full Golf Association of Philadelphia member with a valid GAP/USGA handicap. Children, ages 10 to 17, are eligible to compete with their mother or father. The cost is $55 per team and includes a 9-hole cart fee for both players and a 9-hole entry fee for the parent. Children play for free.

Only 18 teams per venue will be allowed to participate.

The parent/child league will be held on four weekdays in the early evening:

  • Laurel Creek Country Club, Wednesday, July 28 (sold out)
  • Tavistock Country Club, Thursday, Aug. 5
  • Riverton Country Club, Thursday, Aug. 12
  • Burlington Country Club, Wednesday, Aug. 25
The format is a modified chapman. Both players tee off and then switch balls. The parent plays the child’s drive, and vice-versa. Each player hits his or her second shot. They then select the better of the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed, they play only one ball in an alternate shot format.

Food and beverage will be available after the round.
