GAP announces initial TrackMan Member Analysis Days

The Golf Association of Philadelphia is proud to announce its first two TrackMan Member Analysis Days. Dates are Oct. 15 at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club and Oct. 22 at Laurel Creek Country Club. These Member Analysis Days, open to all Golf Association of Philadelphia members, will consist of a 30-minute session on the TrackMan launch monitor, at the cost of $25 per session. TrackMan, a Doppler radar based launch monitor, measures both club delivery and the full trajectory of a golf shot, up to 400 yards.

TrackMan is the premier launch monitor in the golf world, and is used by the USGA and R&A, as well as the PGA Tour, where TrackMan’s statistics are shown frequently in television broadcasts throughout the year. The GAP is the first state or regional golf association to purchase TrackMan, and the Association looks forward to sharing its capabilities as another great service to its membership.

During the session, players will have the opportunity to take advantage of any of TrackMan’s many features, including Find Your Distances, Shot Analysis and Driver Fitting, among others. Sessions will be held every half-hour from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on each date. To reserve your spot, contact Justin Reasy in the GAP office via email at jreasy@gapgolf.org or phone at 610-687-2340, ext. 14. Complete detailed reports of your session will be sent to you via email upon completion of the Member Analysis Days.

The following applications will be available to any GAP members who sign-up to take part in the sessions:

  • Shot Analysis – This is TrackMan’s basic application. Every shot is analyzed and a series of 20 statistics is produced, including club speed, swing speed, spin rate and attack angle.
  • Driver Fitting – Wondering what your optimal driver is? The TrackMan Driver Fitting application will tell you. Try a few drivers and TrackMan will tell you your optimal launch conditions, and from there you’ll be able to tell which driver gives you the best carry or the best total distance.
  • Find Your Distance – This application not only tells you how far you hit each club in your bag, but it will also tell you the gap between each club. If you know the average distance and the variation between your clubs, you’ll be able to play with more confidence on the golf course.
  • Approach Practice – An excellent tool for practicing distance and dispersion control, this application allows the player to choose a target distance and target line, and will provide immediate feedback on the player’s shot.
  • Approach Test – Similar to Approach Practice, this is an application which allows you to test your skills from a certain distance. However, Approach Test also lets you challenge yourself, as each shot is scored according to accuracy to the pin, and after 10 shots, a “handicap” is issued to the player based on performance.
TrackMan provides 20 statistics, some dealing with the ball and some relating to the club in the swing. Here’s a look at some of the statistics that can be presented in TrackMan’s reports after completion of a session:

  • Club Speed – The speed of the club, measured just before impact.
  • Vertical Swing Plane – The angle of the swing plane of the club head, seen from the ground up
  • Horizontal Swing Plane – The swing of the club head, seen from above
  • Attack Angle – The angle at which the club head is “attacking” the ball just before impact, measured in relation to ground level
  • Club Path – The club head measured at impact, resulting in a positive value if the club head is moving to the right and a negative value if the club head is moving to the left
  • Ball Speed – The speed of the ball, measured just before impact
  • Spin Rate – The launch spin, measured just after impact
  • Smash Factor – Ball speed divided by Club Speed
  • Vertical Launch Angle – The launch angle measured just after impact in relation to the horizon
  • Horizontal Launch Angle – The launch angle measured just after impact in relation to the target line, with a positive angle to the right and a negative angle to the left
  • Carry – The carry distance of the shot, measured to the same level as the launch (carry flat)
  • Total – The calculated total distance, which equals the carry distance plus a calculated bounce and roll
