2011 Hoffner Invitational resultsRick Custer dropped a 15-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole Sunday afternoon (June 26) as he and partner John Brennan survived a three-team playoff to win the George W. Hoffner Memorial at Sandy Run Country Club.
The leaders after each of the first two rounds, the Kanias shot a final-round 69 in the better-ball event, with Sunday playing partners Arthur and Raudenbush posting a 66. Brennan and Custer, playing one group ahead, birdied the final five holes to also card a 66 and tie for the lead. After all three teams advanced through the first two playoff holes, Custer drained his putt for the first birdie of the playoff. When Raudenbush’s putt to tie did not fall, the team had its first Hoffner crown. Jim Kania had paired with Cole Willcox of Philadelphia Country Club to win last year’s event while Arthur and Raudenbush won in a playoff in 2009. Andy and Ray Thompson from Overbrook GC finished fourth at 14-under Sunday while Rob Dziak and Andy Achenbach, of RiverCrest GC & Preserve, placed fifth at 13-under. Don Campbell (Philadelphia Country Club) and Terry Scollin (Stone Harbor GC) won the net division with a three-day total of 188, with the Sakima CC team of Dave Jordon and John Willadsen finishing in second two shots back.
