2011 Player of the Year changesIn 2011, the Association’s Player of the Year awards will have tournaments from the other regional tri-state golf associations incorporated in its calculations.Specific tournaments from the Delaware State Golf Association, New Jersey State Golf Association and Pennsylvania Golf Association will now be used, in addition to the previous Golf Association of Philadelphia, USGA and R&A tournaments in determining year-end honors. Also, both divisions of the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Tournament of Champions, amateur and senior, will now be recognized as POY events in their respective standings. The Association is hopeful these changes will inspire individuals across the tri-state region to play more high-level golf. The changes will also provide players of all ages an opportunity to accrue additional points from a variety of well-respected and renowned competitions. An additional 2011 POY change comes in the Association’s Open Championship. Points will no longer be awarded for just qualifying for the Open or to the tournament’s low amateur. The Open has gone through significant tournament changes the last few years, in particular in regards to the number of exemptions and the qualifying process. With those changes now firmly in place — since 2007 — the Association decided it was time to amend the Open Championship’s Player of the Year points’ structure.
