TrackMan Combine Challenge set for July 21-22 at The ACE Club

Do you always hit it close from 120 yards? Is your 80-yard shot the best in your bag? Ever wonder how you’d compare in terms of accuracy to the professionals from certain distances? Thanks to the TrackMan Combine, that possibility is here. The Combine, a benchmarking test of 60 shots from 10 different targets, is used to help players identify the strongest and weakest parts of their golf game. The Golf Association of Philadelphia is proud to announce the first-ever GAP Combine Challenge, which will be held July 21-22 at The ACE Club.

The Combine consists of a player hitting six shots from 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 yards, as well as six shots with the driver. Each shot is scored based on its proximity to the target line and the target distance. The final results are then uploaded to the TrackMan Web site, where a score is given and players can see their results benchmarked against others of all capabilities, both amateur and professional.

The current top TrackMan Combine score is by LPGA Professional Sun Young Yoo, who scored an 87. Luke Donald, one of the world’s top players, has recorded the highest male score on the Combine with an 86. The majority of Division I collegiate golfers have scored a 74 or above.

For the GAP Combine Challenge, four TrackMan Ball Flight Systems will be set up, and four appointments will be taken every hour, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. The cost for the session is $50 per person. Prizes will be awarded in Junior, Amateur and Senior divisions. In addition, all players will receive an emailed copy of all of their statistics from each shot.

For junior golfers, these statistics and Combine results can be great additions to a college golf rĂ©sumĂ©. At the TrackMan Users Meeting this spring in Port St. Lucie, Fla., college coaches including Stanford University Director ofMen’s Golf, Conrad Ray, and Northwestern University’s Director of Golf, Patrick Goss, cited the Combine as a great tool for evaluating potential recruits. For all other golfers, the GAP Combine Challenge is a great test and should prove to be an exciting addition to the Association’s calendar. If you would like more information or have any questions about this event, please contact Mario Machi in the Association office at 610-687-2340, ext. 20.
