Winter Series schedule expands for the spring edition

The Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Winter Series waits around the corner with a spring schedule surprise.

â€śWe are pleased to announce that given the continuing growth in popularity of the Winter Series, we felt it necessary to add two more events,” Chris Roselle, the Association’s Tournament Director, said. “And if we get weather like we had in 2012, these will all hopefully be well-attended.”

The spring edition expands from four to six events, with the action beginning at Spring Ford Country Club Feb. 28. Other venues on the schedule include Sandy Run Country Club (March 6), Inniscrone Golf Club (March 14), Green Valley Country Club (March 20), Coatesville Country Club (March 28) and Talamore Country Club (April 4).

An expanded slate gives participants more chances to accrue Winter Series Player of the Year points. The competition features four categories: Amateur Gross, Amateur Net, Senior Gross and Senior Net. It debuted in 2011.

Registration opens Wednesday, Jan. 16 exclusively on the Association’s Web site, www.gapgolf.org. Cost is $40 per person per event. Entrants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Winter Series is open to all Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur Members 18 years of age and older, Philadelphia Section of PGA Members and golf professionals at Member Clubs. Launched in 2008, the Winter Series offers all players of any skill level an opportunity to compete in tournament golf during the normally quiet, off-season months.

Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 145 Member Clubs and 57,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. As Philadelphia’s Most Trusted Source of Golf Information, the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf.
