The victorious GAP team |
Compher Cup back in GAP graces after triumph at Aronimink
The Golf Association of Philadelphia reclaimed the Compher Cup with a 9.5-8.5 victory over the New Jersey State Golf Association at Aronimink Golf Club. The annual spring matches were rescheduled due to poor weather.
The Compher Cup pits the Golf Association of Philadelphia against the New Jersey State Golf Association with 12-man teams from each side competing in an individual match and four-ball match. Each match is worth one point. Ties are halved. The defending Compher Cup winning Association, in this case the New Jersey State Golf Association, needed nine of the possible 18 points to retain the trophy.
The Golf Association of Philadelphia leads the all-time series 35–13–4. The 2005 Compher Cup was rained out.
It was Team Philadelphia’s fourth win in the last five years. Glenn Smeraglio of Mercer Oaks Golf Course served as the GAP captain.
