GAP keeps you Working for the Weekend thru Saturday qualifiersThe Golf Association of Philadelphia will again offer Saturday qualifiers in 2014. “They were well-supported by those who play in our events and by the Member Clubs who offered to host,” Kirby Martin, GAP Director of Competitions, said. “They were a great success, and we hope that remains the case this year.” Qualifying events will be held for both the Middle-Amateur and Amateur Championships, respectively. White Clay Creek Country Club hosts a Middle-Amateur Qualifier April 26. An Amateur Qualifier will take place May 17 at Running Deer Golf Club. Chris Lange, Jr., an Overbrook Golf Club member, earned medalist honors in the Association’s first-ever Saturday qualifier a year ago at Downingtown Country Club. “My normal program is I ask for the first tee time and I’m in a suit by 12 o’clock, going back into Center City,” he said. “So to be able to come out, sleep in, hang with my wife a little bit, play on a Saturday and not have the stress of knowing I’m missing work was awesome. I loved it. I’m so happy the Golf Association of Philadelphia did that.” DuPont Country Club’s William Gamgort also participated in the Downingtown event, as well as an Amateur Championship Qualifier held on a Saturday at Broad Run Golfer’s Club. Both fit his work schedule. “From the other guys I talked to, the Saturday qualifier was a big deal,” Gamgort added. “If you have a job where you can’t take a lot of time off from work, this is a nice option.” Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 150 Member Clubs and 55,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. As Philadelphia’s Most Trusted Source of Golf Information, the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s mission is to promote, preserve and protect the game of golf. |
