Association set for 26th Senior Challenge MatchesThe Golf Association of Philadelphia eyes a successful Senior Challenge Matches title defense when it takes part in the event’s 26th edition Oct. 2 at Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle, N.J. The Senior Challenge Matches features eight seniors from four associations — Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Philadelphia — engaging in 18 holes of stroke play competition. The top six scores from each count toward the team total. A year ago, the Association edged Maryland in thrilling fashion. Both teams finished at 439, prompting a seventh score to serve as a tiebreaker. Saucon Valley Country Club’s Robin McCool posted a 77 to give GAP its record 13th title. The following players will represent the Golf Association of Philadelphia in this year’s affair.

Chapman Memorial Cup (Gross) at The Springhaven Club; fell to Bert Kosup of The Ridge at Back Brook in a sudden-death playoff after both players finished regulation at 1-over-par 71 … semifinalist in the 7th Brewer Cup at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club; lost to eventual champion Chip Lutz of LedgeRock Golf Club, 3&1 … posted a Top 15 finish in the 44th Senior Amateur Championship at Philmont Country Club with scores of 77 and 74 … placed tied for seventh in the Senior Silver Cross Award standings … quarterfinalist in the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s Senior Amateur Match Play Championship at RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve; fell to Paul Schlachter, 2&1 … currently ranked fourth in the Senior Player of the Year standings.

Warner Cup (Gross) at Talamore Country Club with a score of 2-over-par 73 … posted a Top 15 finish in the 44th Senior Amateur Championship with scores of 74 and 77 … teamed with clubmate Ken Silverwood to share runner-up honors in the 55th Senior Four-Ball Stroke Play at Concord Country Club; lost in a scorecard playoff after carding a 3-under-par 68 … placed fourth in the Senior Silver Cross Award standings … currently ranks fifth in the Senior Player of the Year standings.
