Morey elected to second term as Association President
Robert M. Morey of Merion Golf Club has been elected to serve a second one-year term as President of the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) for its fiscal year that begins Dec. 1, 2015. Morey, 68, served as the Association’s President for 2014. He is eligible to serve three successive years under the Association’s By-Laws.

The election of Officers and the 17-member Executive Committee occurred on Oct. 28 during the Association's 119th Annual Meeting at Galloway National Golf Club in Absecon, N.J.
Also elected to one-year terms as Officers are T. Quinn Spitzer, Huntingdon Valley Country Club, Vice President; Richard Ogorek, Fieldstone Golf Club, Treasurer and Oscar L. Mestre, Overbrook Golf Club, Secretary. Jeffrey S. Henderson of Gulph Mills Golf Club, is nominated for a one-year term in his current role as General Counsel. Ogorek, who served as Secretary of GAP in the just concluded fiscal year, assumes the role of Treasurer as he enters his third year on the Executive Committee. The new Officer in the group is Mestre, who in his second year on the Executive Committee in 2015 served as Chairman of the Championship Committee.
Others on the GAP Executive Committee who were elected to serve an additional one-year term each are Larry Borowsky, White Manor Country Club; Ed Brzezowski, Concord Country Club; John R. Choyka, Indian Valley Country Club; C. Greg Guyer, Philadelphia Cricket Club; William Higgins, St. Davids Golf Club; Edward Hutchinson, Tavistock Country Club; Michael B. McLelland, Chester Valley Golf Club; Glenn Meyer, Philmont Country Club; Noreen Mohler, Northampton Country Club; Joseph Virdone, Philadelphia Country Club and Jonathan P. Warner, Aronimink Golf Club. Warner is an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee as a result of his role as Chairman of the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust.
Also, two new representatives were elected to their first one-year terms on the Executive Committee. They are:
- Jules Quinones of Blue Bell Country Club. Quinones, 50, of Souderton, Pa., is a Senior Account Executive with the local advertising division of Comcast – Comcast Spotlight. He has held that position for 14 years. Comcast Spotlight specializes in helping local area businesses promote themselves on television networks such as ESPN, Golf Channel, Fox News, History and Discovery as well as digitally online through their various network properties. Quinones developed a passion for golf while playing for Cardinal Dougherty High School. He is a two-time club champion at both Lederach Golf Club as well as Skippack Golf Club at Evansburg State Park. Quinones has been a member at Blue Bell since 2003. Quinones served on his club’s tournament committee in 2008 and 2009, eventually becoming tournament chair from 2010-12. He currently serves on Blue Bell’s golf committee. Since 2010, Quinones has volunteer with the Golf Association of Philadelphia as a course rater. Quinones has extensive educational volunteer involvement including serving on the St. Maria Goretti (Hatfield, Pa.) Marketing Committee (2008-11); St. Maria Goretti Vice President of Home & School Association (2008); Mater Dei Catholic School (Hatfield, Pa.) Board Advancement Committee (2013-16) and the Mount St. Joseph Academy (Flourtown, Pa.) co-chairman for the golf tournament (2015-18 ) and Mount St. Joseph Academy Marketing Committee (2015-16).
- Michael J. Walsh, III of Aronimink Golf Club. Walsh, 48, of Malvern, Pa., is Executive Director of Sales & Operations for Marchon Partners, a human capital management firm. Prior, he held the role of Executive Director of Business Operations at TEKsystems, a $3 billion international provider of IT Staffing, IT Services and Talent Management. Walsh is a second generation Aronimink member. He served on the club’s board of governors for six years and as the golf chairman for five years. He is a current member of the Aronimink Greens Committee and is a Club Director for the J. Wood Platt. Walsh served as the Volunteer Committee Chair for the 2003 Senior PGA Championship and 2010-11 AT&T National tournaments held at his home club. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1988-94 both at home and overseas.
Retiring from the GAP Executive Committee as of its Nov. 30, 2015 fiscal year-end are Michael Higgins, Aronimink Golf Club, and W. Garther Sprecher, Lancaster Country Club.
On behalf of the Golf Association of Philadelphia and its 186 Member Clubs, the Executive Committee thanks these outgoing members for their dedicated service to the GAP and to the game. Higgins is retiring after five years on the Executive Committee, four of which he served as Treasurer; and Sprecher after six years.
The 2015 Nominating Committee is chaired by Rich Meehan of Riverton Country Club. Its other members are Daniel B. Burton of Lancaster Country Club and Chris Terebesi of Honeybrook Golf Club. All members of the Nominating Committee are former Golf Association of Philadelphia Executive Committee Officers. Meehan and Burton are Past Presidents.
