A Walk Through Time

GAP is the oldest state or regional golf association in the country. It started courtesy of a friendly competition – the Team Matches – and has grown into the preeminent golf association in the country. Along the way, golf history has been made.

Section defeats GAP, 14.5–3.5, in Philadelphia Challenge Matches

  The Philadelphia Section of the PGA defeated the Golf Association of Philadelphia, 14.5–3.5, in the 25th Philadelphia Challenge Matches at Applebrook Golf Club.

  The Philadelphia Challenge Matches pits two 12-man teams, including two senior contestants, from the Golf Association of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Section of the PGA in a concurrent individual match and four-ball match. Each match is worth one point. Ties are halved.

  The Philly Section leads the series 19–2 with four ties. Robin McCool, a driving force behind the creation of the then PING Challenge Cup, served as Team Philadelphia’s honorary captain.
