The Parent/Child League offers parents and youngsters more opportunities to stay connected through the game of golf. Parents must be a full Golf Association of Philadelphia member with a valid GAP/USGA handicap. Children, ages 5 to 17, are eligible to compete with their mother, father or grandparent.

Cost is $55 per team for the event at North Hills ($80 for Berkshire, $100 for Lookaway). It includes a nine-hole cart fee for both players and a nine-hole entry fee for the parent. Children play for free.

Each event is open to the first 18 teams that sign up on the GAP Web site. At least eight teams must register or the event will be cancelled.

The format is modified chapman. Both players tee off and then switch balls. The parent plays the child’s drive, and vice-versa. Each player hits his or her second shot. They then select the better of the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed, they play only one ball in an alternate shot format.

All Parent/Child League events feature a 5 p.m. shotgun start. The respective theme nights will be highlighted during and after the round.
