GAP debuts golf fitness section

As part of the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s on-going efforts to preserve, protect and promote the game of golf, the Association is launching a golf fitness section on www.gapgolf.org aimed to assist every golfer of any age and skill level with golf related fitness matters.

The new fitness section will provide, among other things, strength training tips, stretching exercises and various other golf-specific fitness guidelines from some of the country’s top golf fitness experts.

"Fitness today plays a large role in modern golf," said Mark Peterson, Executive Director of the Golf Association of Philadelphia. "We are excited to play a part in increasing the awareness of these fitness opportunities and in the process help GAP’s members improve their health as well as their games."

David Ostrow
David Ostrow, President and CEO of Body Balance for Performance, Inc., and Susan Hill, a certified Golf Biomechanic and Sports Performance Nutritionist, are the first of what the Association hopes will be numerous golf experts that contribute to the GAP’s fitness section.

Ostrow, a Pennsylvania licensed physical therapist since 1987, has worked in outpatient orthopedics for 18 years and in golf performance training for 11 years. He was named National Clinical Training Director for Body Balance for Performance in 2000 and, with partner Neil Chasan, purchased Body Balance for Performance from the company’s founder, Paul Callaway, in 2003.

Ostrow is also the co-author of the book The Body and the Golf Swing and has written countless articles on golf fitness through out the years.

Susan Hill has earned national certifications as a fitness trainer with several organizations including the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the International Sports Science Association and the American Council on Exercise.

Susan Hill
She currently trains golfers of all levels at the Sunriver Resort, a top U.S. golf destination resort in Sunriver, Ore.

As a Chek certified Golf Biomechanic and Sports Performance Nutritionist, she is now among an elite group of golf fitness experts nationwide.

Hill has worked with hundreds of golfers ranging in skills from beginners to collegiate, amateur and tour players looking for a more competitive edge.

Hill is also a contributing writer to Golf Illustrated, a guest speaker at private and public golf clubs and a published writer on topics of health, fitness and golf. In 2003 she finished in the top three trainers for Trainer of the Year.

Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 135 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region.
