Garber named GAP’s Tournament Operations Assistant

Jan Garber, of Wayne, Pa., brings two decades of marketing and communications experience to the Golf Association of Philadelphia as the organization’s new Tournament Operations Assistant.

Garber’s impressive accomplishments span a variety of industries and include communications and marketing successes in the fields of pharmaceuticals, advertising, event planning, sales and even thoroughbred breeding and racing.

In particular, as a Commercial Account Specialist for Leaman Associates in Parkesburg, Pa., Garber helped add the Philadelphia 76ers, US Airways, Budget Rent-A-Car, Pan Am Management Systems, Equivest and Macy’s Southeast to the company’s client roster. She was also the former owner and CEO of the Heatherwood Agency, a marketing and communications firm based out of Unionville, Pa., and served as lead designer and principal planner for the Breeders’ Cup International Steeplechase Ball.

Garber’s extensive skill sets and professional achievements in the marketing arena prompted Mark Peterson, Executive Director of the Golf Association of Philadelphia, to bring her aboard with more than tournament assistance in mind.

"Her background in the communications and marketing fields will be a wonderful addition to our tournament administration, but it will especially come into play as we delve deeper into marketing the Association," Peterson said. "Moving forward in 2007, our objective is to have Jan working hand in hand with the communications department to further promote the Association."

Garber attended Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., as well as the University of Delaware.

Founded in 1897, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) is the oldest regional golf association in the United States and serves as the principal ruling body of amateur golf in its region. Its 136 Member Clubs and 60,000 individual members are spread across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The purpose of the Association is simple: To promote, protect and preserve the game of golf in the region.
