2005 President’s Council recap

The Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 1st annual President’s Council proved successful with over 100 Presidents, General Managers and other key individuals from Golf Association of Philadelphia clubs in attendance. The seminar, held on March 15 at Philadelphia Country Club, was designed to educate key personnel from member clubs and to examine topics and issues effecting every club in the organization. This year’s seminar provided three dynamic speakers: Gary Hamilton, Steve Graves and Tom Walker.

Hamilton, a professor at The Collins School of Hospitality Management at California State Polytechnic University spoke on "Managing Board and Committee Relations: The Dynamics of Success." He addressed a number of issues, including building trust, effectively organizing committee structure and process, and recruiting and managing club leadership.

Graves is the President and Founder of Creative Golf Marketing and Management, Inc., and discussed "Strategies to Attract New Members." He spoke on how clubs could find new ways to attract additional members while also retaining their existing members.

Walker, from Bollinger Insurance, ended the morning with his discussion, "Changes in the Insurance Industry – Is Your Club Ready if Disaster Strikes?" Walker discussed the types of coverage clubs should have so their clubs are protected if disaster should strike.

Following a buffet luncheon, each of the guest speakers hosted roundtable discussions, which enabled attendees to have informal discussions with the guest speakers and answer specific questions regarding their clubs.
